For the last 60 years, the U.S. NAVY has abided by the famous acronym, KISS. The best ideas, even the most complex, should be the most simple. The most straightforward explanation, the one with the fewest moving parts is usually the best. “Keeping it Simple Stupid” is probably the best advice for Christians.
The Bible contains only a minuscule portion of the depths and wisdom of God (cf. Rm 11:33; Ba 3:32,36).
If our puny brains can conceive of E=MC2 , imagine how complex is the infinite God?
One of the reasons the Church recited the creed after the sermon was to shine the light of the Church on the words of the homily.
Is the homily nothing more than pop psychology, political bias or a blatant denial of the Bible and the Church’s teaching?
I’d rather the pastor read a sermon from a Saint (cf.Peter Chrysologus’ in today’s Office of Readings) than hear his take on today’s news.
How much better to pray the words of the Church:
“Almighty, ever-living God, make us ever obey you willingly and promptly. Teach us how to serve you with sincere and upright hearts in every sphere of life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, (one) God, for ever and ever. Amen.”
