Time to Choose

Imagine if Jesus’ mother said “yes” to Gabriel’s request but instead of obeying, she decided to go about her own business?     Her “yes” followed by her life’s “no” would have profited her nothing.

Faith without works is the theme of Scripture.

James asks, ” What does it profit if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?  If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food,   and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”  (cf.  James 2)

In Luke 11:27-28,  while Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd prophesies:
“Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Jesus agrees with the blessing  but the prophecy forgets the main point of Scripture and the reason why Mary was blessed.  We are blessed when we combine hearing the Word of God and obedience.

The word of God plus obedience creates blessing.

The opposite blessing is a curse. Speaking through Moses in Deut. 11, Go states, “I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; he curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.”

It’s Never to Late to Right the Ship.  But don’t wait until its too late.

The prophet Joel sees a day where literally crowds from all over the world will be “in the valley of decision.”  He writes in Joel 4, “For near is the day of the LORD in the valley of decision.rse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.”

For those who believe and obey, “the Lord will be our refuge.”   Don’t be like the residents of Edom or Egypt and fail to follow the example of Mary.
