Ranker lists the top things Americans love to hate:
- Websites that require you to sign up to use
- When your personal space is violated
- Passwords
- Labels that are impossible to understand
- When your utensils fall into your food
If those are the things I hate, I must live in the U.S.A.
Proverbs 6 lists seven things God hates:
- haughty eyes,
- a lying tongue,
- hands that shed innocent blood,
- a heart that devises wicked plans
- feet that hurry to run to evil,
- a lying witness who testifies falsely,
- and one who sows discord in a family.
The Apostle Paul restates Proverbs 6 in his own words, “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions , and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God” (cf. Galatians 5: 19-21).
If God hates, we should hate.
- Psalms 97:10 – Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
- Proverbs 8:13 – To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
- Amos 5:15 – Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.
- Romans 12:9 – Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
If you want to be like God, it’s OK to hate.
