So much of who we are, who we think we are, or what we think others think of us determines most of our behaviors. Many of societal problems today stem from those three statements. It could be anorexia, bulimia, suicide, unwanted pregnancies, abortion, bullying, Facebook or Instagram bullying are in response to how we view ourselves and what our minds say to us.
Peter tells us to gird up the loins of your mind. It is a military image. It is getting ready for battle but it is constant and we must never let up. You never take a break because your enemy will find your weakness and try to defeat you. We are to live soberly and set our hopes completely on the grace given to us by Jesus Christ. Then he says do not act just like obedient children who can parrot the rules of the home, but to be holy in every aspect of your conduct. We can be holy because Jesus is holy.
That changes everything. Who am I? I am in Jesus Christ and I am holy. Others may thing bad things about me, it doesn’t matter because Jesus thinks of me as his child and I am holy. If we could grasp this concept we can change the world because anyone who is God’s child is holy. Why would we go against Him in how we treat others.
Be holy as I am holy. I Peter 3:16
