God never wants words or empty promises. He wants ears open to hear and obedience to do His will. “Here I am Lord, I come to do your will.” (Psalm 40) The children of Israel were making sacrifices, bringing their sin offerings to God but that wasn’t all that God wanted. It is very easy to do the “stuff.” You have done it so many times you don’t even need to think when you do it-just do the minimum. God doesn’t want us to be robots. He desires a heart that is in obedience also.

Jesus came as the perfect sacrifice. A sign promised in Isaiah, “A virgin shall conceive and bear a son and he shall be called Emmanuel which means God with us!” Hebrews explained that the blood of bulls and goats did not take away our sins and that was why Jesus came. Through the offering of Jesus Christ on the cross it was a one-time only sacrifice. He died for everyone. He does not need to repeat it over and over again. When Scripture speaks of sin offerings and the blood of animals being shed, we no longer need to do that. We are released from that and that is why our hearts must continually seek him because we don’t need to do the outward sacrifices. We must remember the sacrifice was complete with Jesus Christ.

Thanks be to God.
