“He cannot be the Christ because we know where he is from and when Christ comes, no one will know where he is from.” That reasoning is from the talkers in Jerusalem. They knew the gossip. The religious leaders wanted to kill Jesus and yet there he was in Jerusalem openly walking around like he didn’t even know of the plot.
But God is not fooled. And Jesus cries out in a loud voice, that they did know him but they really didn’t know where he was from because God sent him. They become more angry when Jesus reads their mail. They tried but they couldn’t arrest him because his time was not yet come.
People do not change. It has been thousands of years since Jesus was on earth but people still don’t believe that Jesus is who He said He was. They can find excuses why they do not believe and yet they know who Jesus is. We want Jesus on our own terms but he cries out to us, “You know who I am and that God sent me.” But we cannot hear his words and we become angry. We have to get to the end our ourselves to reach Him.
Psalm 34 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
