Moses:  Advocate For The People

God and Moses are up on Mount Sinai.  God is giving Moses the Law and the commandments.  The rules to help the people live civilized, God-fearing lives.  And God looks down and sees what they are doing and He becomes angry.  The people just didn’t get nervous because Moses was gone so long, they made a golden calf and were worshipping it.  After all that they had seen God do, they worship a calf.  They weren’t on their faces crying out “O God help us.  We are alone and we desperately need You.”  No, they are dancing and worshiping around a golden calf.  God is ready to consume them, but Moses becomes their advocate.  “Why do you want to destroy your own people?  What will the Egyptians think?  Why would you take them out of Egypt, cross the Red Sea and start them for the Promised Land and now kill them?  Remember Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  Your promise to make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky.”  Moses lays it all out there for the people.  AND THEN GOD RELENTED.

Who stands up for us when we are going our own way?  Who is our advocate.  Our advocate is Jesus Christ who pleads our case before the Father.  We are as guilty as the children of Israel, but Jesus shed his blood so that we might be saved.

1 John 2:1:  My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father-Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
