Listen, Walk, Obey

When we follow Christ our lives change. The old ways are gone and we walk in newness of life. Scripture gives us examples of how to live and how not to handle our life.

In Jeremiah 7, The Lord said “Listen to my voice and I will be your God, walk in all of the ways I command you so that you will prosper. Obey my words.” But they didn’t obey, they walked in the hardness of their heart and they would not listen. In Psalm 95 it says, “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.”

The Bible has so many verses that speak about our heart. The physical heart keeps us alive but we fail to realize that our spiritual heart also keeps our spiritual life alive. Many of us have so many spiritual heart problems we are almost on life support. It doesn’t have to be that way. What caused us to have spiritual cholesterol and clog our arteries-our appetites are out of control. Maybe we need a spiritual diet. What do we do as a spiritual exercise? We can rattle off all of the physical things we can do to improve our heart health, but what have we done to improve our spiritual heart health?

A first step and a place to start is found in Joel 2, Even now says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart for I am gracious and merciful.
