Living on the Farm

Jesus often taught in parables. They were stories of everyday things that had a spiritual application. He tells of a farmer who plants seeds and he observes that birds come and eat some of his seeds, some of the seeds get over into the rocky soil and they start to grow but wither and die, some seeds fall among the weeds and thorny plants and they just are chocked out and die, but some fall into the rich cultivated soil and grow and produce a crop.

Then in the middle of this parable we are given the following verse: The mystery of the kingdom of God has been granted to you. But to those outside everything comes in parables so that-they may look and see but not perceive and hear and listen but not understand in order that they may not be converted and forgiven.

My heart needs to be like the rich soil that is eager to receive the Word of God. I want to hear/listen and understand what God is saying to me. I want to remove any rocks or weeds that would keep the Word from taking root. I want to limit the distractions of life so that nothing snatches away God’s Word. Lord, give us eyes to see and ears to hear what the Father wants us to learn.
