Jesus was a mystery. On a particular Sabbath, he goes to the synagogue in Capernaum and he taught the lesson. The people were astonished at his teaching because he taught as having authority not as the scribes. The people noticed the difference. They understood the Scriptures because the author explained it to them.
Jesus also encounters a demon possessed man. The demon identifies Jesus as the Holy One of God. Jesus told the demon to be quiet and to come out of the man and the demon obeyed.
The mystery of Jesus was on display. The people knew him as Jesus of Nazareth and yet he taught them with authority and he commanded unclean spirits to come out of a man and the demons obeyed him. With these two incidents, Jesus fame begins to spread through the whole region.
