People who are often mentioned in the Bible have only a few verses that tell their story but it is powerful either for good or bad.
The Bible says, Simeon is a righteous and devout man. If that was all that was ever written about him that would be enough, but it also says the Holy Spirit was upon him and he knew he would not see death until he had seen the Christ. On that particular day, Joseph and Mary bring Jesus to the Temple for his purification and Simeon knew when he saw them who this baby was. He came up to Mary and Joseph and asked to hold Jesus and he prophetically prays, “Your word has been fulfilled, my own eyes have seen the salvation which you prepared in the sight of every people, a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory to your people Israel.”
Mary and Joseph were amazed at what Simeon said, but to them it was further confirmation of who Jesus was and why he came to this earth. They knew being the parents of this child would not be easy because they knew God’s plan for him supersedes any plans or dreams they may have had for their own baby.
