The Good Life

What does it take to have a good life? Many people define a good life as wealth, status, notoriety, or just having more than what I have right now. That is not God’s definition of a good life. “Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, I the Lord your God will teach you what is for your good and lead you in the way that you should go. If you would hearken to my commandments your prosperity would be like a river.” (Isaiah 48) “Blessed is the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked nor walks in the way of sinners, but he delights in the law of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.” (Psalm 1)

It seems like life would be easier if we learned to listen to God. We have so much noise going on in our world that we don’t hear what God is telling us. He is not promising a life with no difficulties, but He is saying that if our heart is following his leading and we are trying to keep his commandments we will not chaff when difficulties come because we already know that God is for us. God wants to be close to us. We tend to push Him away and not hear his still small voice.

Lord, help us to have a tender heart to hear your voice and to desire to follow you with our whole heart. Amen
