O Holy Night

When Mary meets the angel and is told that she is chosen to be the mother of Jesus so many questions must have been flying through her mind. Many the angel answered like “Do not be afraid.” “God has chosen you.” “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.” And she also asked the hard questions like, “How can this be since I am a virgin?” The angel calmed her fears and told her Elizabeth was also with child.
She then travels to visit her cousin Elizabeth. We do know that Elizabeth recognized immediately that Mary was pregnant and that it was a supernatural pregnancy. Elizabeth’s role was probably greater than just the paragraph that is given to their initial meeting. The Bible says Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and I am sure God chose her to teach Mary spiritual truths that would help her through the remainder of her life.
Luke 2 tells of the shepherds coming to Bethlehem to see Jesus after hearing the angels singing and it says “but Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” That initial encounter with the Angel is reconfirmed to her again at the birth of Jesus and angels filling the sky with singing, that this was God’s Son the Messiah who has come to save the world.
