What Does God Give To You?

King Nebuchadnezzar attacks Jerusalem.  He seized the king, vessels used in the Temple, as well as captives. He had a special plan for the young men taken who were of the nobility.  They had no defects, they were handsome, intelligent and wise, quick to learn and prudent in judgment.  King Nebuchadnezzar wanted them prepared to become part of his royal aides and to serve him in the palace.  This was going to be a three year training mission and it was so important to the king that he ordered them to be fed the food and wine from the royal table.

But Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah resolved not to defile themselves with the king’s food and wine.  They asked to do a test of eating just vegetables and water and after ten days they would be evaluated to see if they were declining in health.  After ten days they were healthier than those who were eating the king’s food.

God gave these young men knowledge and proficiency in science and literature.  To Daniel God gave him understanding in visions and dreams.  After their time of training they were brought before the king and he found none of them equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.  They were placed into the king’s service and he found them to be ten times more proficient that all of his magicians or enchanters in the kingdom.

What abilities has God given to us that no one else has or that with humility we can do better than anyone else?  God wanted a light to shine in Nebuchadnezzar’s palace and he chose four men to prove to a king that God does move.  The king saw what God had done even though he didn’t recognize God was working in his kingdom.  Does our light shine brightly in the part of the world God has placed us?  God give us courage to be brave like these four young men.
