God always desires us to move forward, to draw closer to Him, and to remember our past but also to learn from it.
In Luke 17, Jesus reminds them of the past. First, as in the days of Noah… During that time no one was seeking God except Noah. They were eating, drinking, marrying, and doing the ‘stuff’ of life but they became evil because they forgot God. So Noah built the ark, God sent the flood and destroyed everything except for Noah and his family. Second, as in the days of Lot…. They were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building, and living depraved lives without any need of God or repentance from their sin. God destroyed the cities with fire and brimstone. Thirdly, as in the days of the Son of Man… Again man will turn away from God do what is right in his own eyes and God will again judge the world.
The lesson that Jesus wants us to learn is that God is always looking for his righteous followers. Sometimes it may feel like there is on one else trying to follow God but yourself, but you may never know that you might have been the righteous person who stayed God’s judgment on a particular city. God sees our hearts and knows our passion for Him and there is a reward for being faithful.
