Have you ever just sat and in a quiet moment thought about what God is really like? I tend to stop at the point of He looks like a white haired grandfather type figure who lives in heaven, but that really isn’t what God is like at all.
David in Psalm 139 gives us a picture of God and it can change your images of Him. He says, O Lord, you know me. You know when I sit and when I stand. You even know my thoughts. Lord, you know every place I go every day and even before I say a word you know what I will say and even the whole conversation. Lord, you are behind me and before me. Your hand rests on me. This is too much for a human brain to comprehend. Where can I go to get away from God? To the heavens, He is there; to the deepest pit He is there; I can go to the depths of the sea He is there. I cannot lose his presence. Wherever I am your hand guides me and your right hand holds me fast.
There is great comfort in knowing that the God of heaven has his right hand on my shoulder today. He is walking in step with me. There is nothing today that that comes my way that He is not right there beside of me to help me through it.
Guide me Lord, along the everlasting way.
