Jesus proclaims a WOE to the Pharisees, “You hypocrites. You lock the kingdom of Heaven before men. You don’t enter yourselves nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter.” What an indictment. They actually went around causing others to be unable to find out about the kingdom of Heaven and that it was available to all. They discouraged others from finding God.
Contrast that with Paul’s praise of the Thessalonians. “We give thanks to God always for you…calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love. In every place your faith in God has gone forth…how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God.”
How we live our lives in the world tells our spiritual journey and story. Do we do things that prevent others from entering the kingdom? Or do our lives reflect what God has done for us and that there has been such a dramatic change that people want to know the God we serve.
